Looking forward to in 2018
In this last category I am including games that are to be released in 2018 (or at least have a 2018 release date at the moment of writing) and that for some reason or another I am looking forward to play in 2018.
Dragon Ball FighterZ
To be released January 26th (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
Dragon Ball Z, as for most people, was one of the first animes I’ve watched during my childhood. Because of that I ended up playing a lot of those games as I grew up, but none of them looked as good as this one, even the current anime doesn’t look as good as FighterZ. At first, I was a bit sceptic because FighterZ’s gameplay style is clearly aimed at hardcore fighting games fans. However, after participating in a closed beta and playing it myself I was convinced of the true genius of this game. The gameplay is exquisite, with tight controls and full of references to the manga and anime in the character’s movesets. Of course the controls are as complicated as in any other game of the genre, but it’s still easy to pick up a controller and have a lot of fun. All in all, I’m very much looking forward to play the full game, though it most likely won’t be at launch.

Code Vein
To be released in 2018 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
Code Vein is set to be another one of those “Souls-like clones” with focused and tactical combat. However, as someone has said before, it’s “Dark Souls with anime”! Code Vein instead of going for a dark and fantastic thematic, it’s taking the direction of an anime in a post-apocalyptic scenario. To add to the mix, in Code Vein, instead of playing alone, you can play along with an NPC that heals and revives you when needed, giving you the chance to play more aggressively, creating a completely different approach for each encounter. As a Dark Souls junkie, I will be sure to check out this game.
Shovel Knight: King of Cards
To be released in 2018 (To be released in all platforms which Shovel Knight is currently available on)
Shovel Knight’s spree of free story expansions is set to come to an end in 2018 with King of Cards. This time, you’ll be taking control of King Knight, the most regal of knights. Besides the introduction of brand new gameplay mechanics and, apparently, lots of brand new stages, there will also be a card game of sorts to play. Not much is known about that part yet but it’s an interesting idea and something more to look forward to when the game releases.

Bayonetta 1 + 2
Remaster to be released February 16th, 2018; (Nintendo Switch)
With the announcement Bayonetta 3, Nintendo also announced the rerelease of Bayonetta 1 and Bayonetta 2 for the Nintendo Switch. After a long time of wanting to play these games I guess I’ll finally have the perfect chance to do it, more so because it will be in the comfort of my Switch.
Shadow of the Colossus
Remake to be released February 6th; (PS4)
I spent the first half of 2017 sighing because I wanted to play Shadow of the Colossus but it wasn’t available on current hardware. Then came E3 2017, and with it came the announcement of a remake for Shadow of the Colossus, to be released on the PS4. I couldn’t be happier because I’ll finally get to play this gem, and better looking than ever-before. February can’t come soon enough!

Metro Exodus
To be released in 2018; (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
As you’ve read regarding Metro Redux, this series is one that I like very much, but that above all impresses me from a video game point of view. It's dark, gruesome, and doesn’t shy away from making you feel uncomfortable. However, if there’s something that I’d like to see improved it would be: (1) the graphics, which seems to be taken care of from what is shown in the trailer, and (2) the gunplay, which felt janky and imprecise. Fortunately, those two problems will most likely be inexistent or forgettable if they exist, so the story once again will have the biggest impact on the quality of the game.
And that's a wrap for the Looking forward to in 2018 category. The end of this also marks the end for 2017's ZeReviews Video Game Awards. Thank you so much for reading it and please stay tuned for new content in 2018!
